Today in contemplation
It Bears Repeating
Your life changes constantly. Everything is temporary, even your body. You are dying from the time you are born. The only thing permanent in your life is its impermanence.
The world you inhabit is transitory. You know it as the universe. You experience it as a body with its personality. The life force that animates you animates all things, including rocks and trees and the moon. It is the force of all existence. This force is consciousness. Consciousness is intelligent and aware. It expresses existence as a thought of separation, but like unicorns in your imagination separation cannot be real, which makes your world an illusion.
Being an illusion, your world shifts and changes unceasingly. You struggle to hang on. You cling to your body. You fear its death and the loss of all that supports it. To survive, you form attachments to people, places, and things. You develop desires and expectations. You experience pleasure and pain, happiness and sorrow. None of it is real.
Your life is like a pool shimmering in desert heat as you thirst. You seek to quench, but like a mirage your life is not real. You are not your body with its personality. Your existence is a thought in consciousness. Once you realize that you are afloat in a dream, you are free from all of life’s attachments. Then you can live as the joy that is your true nature. You are released from desire and expectation. Instead of pleasure and happiness, you find peace of heart in all situations, even during times of pain and sorrow. Joy brings you peace. Joy is in the moment. Attend to the moment. Your entire life lies in the moment.
