In contemplation
Who am I?
This is one of the great existential questions. Mystics and philosophers have struggled with it for centuries. Let us contemplate some of their teachings.
Day 10
You cannot escape consciousness. Your actions occur within the illusion that you are separate and alone. There is no consciousness plus you. There is no consciousness minus you. You are not a pot on the potter’s shelf. You are not a wave on the ocean. You are the dancing that is the dance.
You live in a comparative world of this and that. Everything is relative to its position in spacetime. Your perceptions help you form the world in which you live. It is a world where nothing is permanent. Your life depends not only on transitory circumstances but also on your attitude toward them. You perceive yourself as a form in spacetime. Your reality is that you are consciousness in existence. You are the expressing of the world in which you live.
The world that you perceive is small when compared to the whole of existence. The existence that you know is the universe. The whole of existence is the universe and all realms beyond it. Your world is the infinitesimally small space you occupy on a tiny blue marble within existence.
See your world as the illusion that it is and be done with it. It does not last. It has no meaning. Your world is perception. Do you have what you want? What is your attitude toward your situation. You cannot know other than what you imagine your world to be. Your imagination is filled with desire from memories and its future projections.
You perceive your world from memories. Your perceptions generate desires which lead to expectations. The extent to which your expectations are fulfilled brings about pleasure and pain, happiness and sorrow. All are functions of memory and anticipation. You skip over the present moment in your rush to find meaning and happiness.
You live in the world you perceive. Do you live in it as your reality, or do you see it as illusion? Set yourself right. Enter the room-within. Remember your true nature as consciousness in existence. You are the whole of the all. There is nothing outside of you.
