Attending to Attar, Day 88
To be a wayfarer is to seek what has not been lost. How long must this last? Until the annihilation of self. For now, you are mired in the madness of your own folly. If you were on the path at all, you would not be entangled in these words. They confuse the situation even further. But, if you enjoy the journey, then keep searching. Otherwise, enter the silence. Aspire to access the mystery but hold no expectations. In your desire to know, do nothing. Let revelation embrace you. You will soon know that chasing worldly love is your folly. Who is not eager to capture love? But to seek love in the world is to chase it down a rabbit hole. You become obsessed with wanting love. However, worldly love is tainted with fear. Who does not fear love’s loss? To know love without fear is to know joy. Joy, in fact, is the mystery you zealously pursue. You do not know this as the me of the body. You cannot seek worldly love and know joy. It is impossible to be the me of the body without fear. Fear is the nature of its existence as separation. To perceive separation is to fear loss, so you cling to the treasures of the world. But you have attached yourself to an illusion. You have attached your very sense of being to transitory objects, including the me of the body, and the meanings that you have given to them. How can you give up what you love and still have a sense of self? You cannot. You must annihilate the self to know love without fear.
