Ruminating with Rumi
Do you even know what you want? You are so overrun with desire that you pick every little thing from your head to wish for. You yearn for this, that, and the other thing. Stop lusting after the orchard. Spot a few good trees to approach. Better yet, let the fruit fall where it may. Look at the one good tree in front of you with its low hanging fruit. The one closest always tastes the best. Pick it. Savor its juiciness. It’s the one for you.
Be aware of your longings. Walk the way of the path. Keep to the straight and narrow. Do so as the witness to your desires. They do not all have to be tasted. Set them on the threshold of the room within. This room is a secret sanctuary known only to you. Do not taint it with worldly desire. The world does not understand your state of emptiness. You are without desire. Your senses are at rest. The ground before you is fresh soil. No one has tread here before.
You are guided by awareness as you walk the path. Think of it as a bird flying before you. Listen to its song. It sings of home. To return home is to reveal your true nature. You are Muhammad. You are the one who knows the way. You are kin to all who leave their footprints in fresh soil. You know them by the gathering birds. Be at peace in the presence of your reality. You have walked slowly, been patient, and paid attention to the one straw carried in the bird’s beak. All the birds have gathered to build a single nest from many straws. It is the home of consciousness in existence.
