In contemplation
Who am I?
This is one of the great existential questions. Mystics and philosophers have struggled with it for centuries. Let us contemplate some of their teachings.
Day 43
Things happen. What meaning do they have? That is up to you. Of themselves, they are meaningless. You give them purpose. Their meaning and purpose are determined by your interpretation of past events. What you see in today’s events gives meaning to your future. In this way, pleasure and pain, happiness and sorrow come and go.
You have power over life by the meaning you give to what happens.
The fruits of meaning are pleasure and pain, happiness and sorrow. The fruit you pick comes from the seeds you sow. The pattern of your life fits your assumptions. The thoughts you grab lead to actions. Actions stir beliefs. From beliefs you give meaning to all that happens.
Changing your thoughts changes your beliefs. New beliefs bring new actions and a new life.
