A Course of Love, Day 8
To a friend
When life is not as you wish it to be, you think that you need to learn how to accept what you do not like, or to create a situation that you do like. Stop! To do either is to prolong the illusion that you are the me of the body. You are not your body or its personality. You are that which I AM—whole, complete, perfect, eternal—as is.
I AM is your true nature. As your true nature, love life and yourself. To love is to accept all in the moment. To accept is to witness. Observe your emotions with peace of heart. They are not you. You have created them using judgment and hope. You judge the past as good or bad, right or wrong, and hope for a change in the future. In doing so, you miss the moment. To be in the moment is to witness your emotions as they are without owning them. They are ponies in the field to watch without riding.
To be the witness is to observe your emotions without judgment or hope for change. As the witness, you can change your thoughts, which changes your beliefs and actions, which changes your world. Change occurs because you accept yourself in the moment, not in some wishful thinking of the future.
To witness your emotions is not to disregard them, but to observe without owning them. They are not you. Accept them as the illusion that they are. Do the same for your neighbor. When you witness emotions, yours and your neighbor’s, you choose not to react. You accept the present moment with peace of heart in all situations. To be at peace always is to live in unity with all.
