In contemplation
Who am I?
This is one of the great existential questions. Mystics and philosophers have struggled with it for centuries. Let us contemplate some of their teachings.
Day 53
The mind is a feature of separation. It binds you to existence with ignorance and fear. Its bonds include desire and imagination. Learn to use the mind wisely. Become its observer, not its slave.
The best use of mind is in the service of love, rather than in the service of fear and its desires. Learn to love without fear.
Do not look to the world for wisdom and love. Look within yourself. What you find in the world reflects the mind. You cannot change from fear to love by polishing the mirror. The reflection comes from within. Attend to your true nature. The rest will follow.
You live in a world of thoughts and emotions. You interact with them constantly. They define you as the me of the body. You judge them They underlie your dreams.
You desire to live. You crave the sensory experiences of existence. You strive for meaning and purpose. You desire fulfillment. Pleasure and pain, happiness and sorrow ensue. These are the ways of the world.
You are not the body. You are not the mind. To know your true nature, you must go beyond both. To go beyond is to enter the room-within. From within you can be the witness and not the doer.
Stop doing. You do not know the way. The way of the path is to remember your true nature. You must come to know that you are that which I AM.
Remember I AM and you are half-way home. The way is clear. Attend to it unceasingly. Hold I AM in mind until the full secret is revealed.
There is nothing to worship. Nothing to bow down to. You are the one. There is no other. Place none ahead of you. Leave none behind. Attend to life and its lessons by surrendering to I AM.
Let life’s lessons be revealed from within. By following your true nature, you work your way through life’s crowd of events without losing your way.
