In contemplation
Who am I?
This is one of the great existential questions. Mystics and philosophers have struggled with it for centuries. Let us contemplate some of their teachings.
Day 51
The roots of your existence are desire and imagination. They hold you in a state of separation. They are your attachments to the me of the body. They result in pleasure and pain, happiness and sorrow. Uproot yourself. Enter a state of witnessing. Be aware and detached from desire and imagination.
Where do you go from here? Are you awake enough to know? You are the emptiness that is nowhere. Be unaffected by worldly ways. The me of the body is hapless. It does not know. It comes and goes. You are eternal. Observe life without attachment. Live in the silence of awareness. Awaken to your true nature.
To be aware and awake is to have clarity. To be clear is to apply your knowledge to daily life. The mind would bind you to worldly ways. Clarity frees you to see from within. To see from within disassociate from the mind. You are now its observer rather than its slave. Its worries and wishes are not yours. Give your mind full attention. It is not to be ignored only observed. Its thoughts and feelings remain.
Be aware. Ask your questions. Awaken to the nature of reality. That nature is you. Remain attentive to your true nature as you come through darkness. Your restlessness to know will wane.
Attentiveness comes through the heart. It is the love you bestow upon all. Do not undervalue attention. It sets the stage for life. It brings you all that you value. It holds all that you keep.
To what do you attend? The world and all that it holds? Is this what you wish to keep? All your life is concerned with it. You hold on to the past. You desire a future of pleasure and happiness. You suffer pain and sorrow. Without the world who are you? That is the question with which you struggle. Not knowing, you cling to the attachments you have forged as an object in spacetime. Your foothold for release lies within where you attend to your true nature and not the world of the me of the body.
