In contemplation
Who am I?
This is one of the great existential questions. Mystics and philosophers have struggled with it for centuries. Let us contemplate some of their teachings.
Day 46
You are joy. To know joy is to live without fear. Without fear, there is no desire or expectation. This frees you from bondage to the me of the body.
Love without fear is your natural state. Fear without love is evilness. Evilness has lost heart. Do not give it a home. Open your heart to joy. This is who you are.
To know joy, enter the room within. In the silence, release all memories of this and that. Let the mind settle. Stop chewing on worries and wishes. Be at peace in all situations.
Living in peace is life’s purpose. Disregard desire. Ignore expectations. Live without concern. For this you must know your true nature. You cannot do it as the me of the body.
Your personal nature is flimsy and transitory. It acts as if you were born for pleasure and pain, happiness and sorrow. It lives on memory and hope. It extolls its dreams as success. It fears loss as failure. It seeks this and that in a world of separation. Vague perceptions of I am this... obscure your awareness of joy as your true nature.
Put your effort into doing nothing. Be free to fulfill the moment, not with judgment or hope, but with wisdom and joy. To be free as the me of the body is still bondage to this and that. To know joy is to be free without attachments. To know your true nature is the wisdom that sets you free. Those who are free do not say. They live without bondage and fear.
