In contemplation
Who am I?
This is one of the great existential questions. Mystics and philosophers have struggled with it for centuries. Let us contemplate some of their teachings.
Day 45
You perceive the world you experience as the me of the body. You are the perceiver. You are the perceived as well. You observe your own existence. You appear in existence as the perceiver and the perceived. This is the nature of consciousness in existence.
In truth, you are neither the perceiver nor the perceived. You are the perceiving. You are the energy of existence. Looking even closer, you see that you are not the perceiving either. You are simply consciousness, the emptiness that is nowhere. The rest is illusion.
The me of the body does not know these things. It knows only itself. What is described here cannot be said with words of separation. It is an unfolded mystery known only from within the silence.
The me of the body appears separate from all. It perceives this and that, here and there, and asks, who am I? The me that asks is ignorant and fearful. It fears oblivion and seeks eternal life.
Make room for your true nature. Your true nature is wisdom and joy. Open your heart to its possibilities. Peace comes from a heart filled with joy. Wisdom comes from losing the self. Without the self, you recognize your true nature in the void you once feared.
The me of the body appears real. Your true nature seems like some far off nonsense. What is concrete in your life is not real. You perceive sensations. You live from memory. The world is what you think it to be from your perceptions of the past.
Leave the past. Turn inward. Enter the moment. Find the ground of goodness where you are planted firmly. Grow into your awareness of your true nature.
